About Assisted Stretching

Everything you want to know about our one-on-one assisted stretching sessions — designed specifically for seniors and those in rehabilitation.

Assisted stretching is a hands-on technique where our trained technician will guide your body through a series of stretches — you don’t have to do the work yourself. Unlike stretching alone, they can safely take your muscles and joints through a greater range of motion than you’d typically reach on your own, helping release tension more effectively. Each session is one-on-one, so every movement is tailored specifically to your body and how it feels that day.

When you stretch alone, your muscles naturally resist — it’s a protective reflex. With assisted stretching, we use techniques that help your nervous system relax that guard, allowing a deeper and safer stretch. You’ll also benefit from having trained eyes on your alignment and technique, which reduces the risk of overstretching or compensating with the wrong muscles. Most clients feel a noticeable difference after just one session.

Yes — it’s one of the gentlest and most effective things you can do for your body as you get older. We work slowly, communicate throughout, and never push past what feels comfortable for you. Improved flexibility, better balance, and reduced stiffness are all well-documented benefits for older adults. If you have osteoporosis, joint replacements, or a recent injury, we will adjust the approach accordingly.

What to Expect

Each session lasts around 45–60 minutes. We begin with a brief check-in about how your body is feeling — any areas of tightness, discomfort, or recent changes. From there our technician guides you through a sequence of assisted stretches targeting your specific needs, whether that’s the hips, lower back, shoulders, or legs. You remain fully clothed throughout, and you’re always in control of the pace and pressure.

It should never hurt. You may feel a gentle pulling sensation as a muscle lengthens — that’s normal and often feels relieving. We check in with you regularly throughout the session, and we always work within your comfort level. If anything feels sharp, pinching, or painful, we stop immediately and adjust. Your feedback is essential to every session.

Absolutely. Whether you’re recovering from a hip or knee replacement, managing chronic back pain, dealing with arthritis, or working through post-stroke rehabilitation, we will adapt every stretch to what’s safe and appropriate for your situation. The technician will ask about your medical history before we begin, and is happy to liaise with your physiotherapist or GP if needed.

Many clients feel noticeably looser and more comfortable immediately after their first session. Lasting improvements in flexibility, posture, and ease of movement typically build over several sessions. Consistency matters — clients who come weekly or fortnightly tend to see the most sustained results.

Practical Details

Loose, comfortable clothing works best — think yoga pants, joggers, or anything that doesn’t restrict movement. You’ll remain fully clothed for the entire session. Avoid thick denim or anything very tight. No special footwear is needed as sessions are done lying down or seated on a treatment table.

Sessions are one-on-one and in-person in our a private room in our studio.  Getting on and off a treatment table is something we’ll manage together — just let me know if mobility is a concern and we will make sure everything is set up to suit you.

For general flexibility and wellbeing, once a week is ideal. If you’re in active rehabilitation or dealing with significant stiffness, twice a week can accelerate progress. Even a fortnightly session provides meaningful benefit. We’ll discuss what makes sense for your goals and schedule when we meet.

Pricing varies depending on session length and frequency. Please get in touch for current rates — We offer a free 45 minute consultation.

We ask for 24 hours’ notice where possible. We completely understand that health and mobility can be unpredictable day to day, and we always try to be flexible. If you need to reschedule, just reach out and we’ll find another time that works.
