Maximize Your Workouts

Work with one of our trainers at the gym, or virtually

Working with a personal trainer should not be considered a luxury. Trainers know how to best use all of the equipment to its fullest advantage, and how to help you use it safely and intelligently to achieve your desired results, whether it be weight loss, muscle gain, or just plain old optimum physical fitness. Each of our trainers is fully certified and can develop a program to meet your goals and safely accommodate any limitations you may have.

When you schedule a session with a trainer you are more likely to make it to the gym – you have a set time and are expected to show up. There is less likelihood of skipping your workout for the day if you have a planned routine and someone waiting for you. You also will push yourself harder with someone watching whom you inherently want to please or impress. Trainer sessions provide the trifecta of fitness: knowledge, motivation, and accountability.

The Fitness Edge offers a variety of training packages to meet your budget – half hour, full hour, private, semi-private, and even group. Talk to our staff about how you can work with a personal trainer.

Your questions, answered.

Everything you need to know before your first session — from what to expect to how we work safely together.

Getting Started

Absolutely not. In fact, most of my clients come to me having been away from exercise for years — or dealing with a condition that has made staying active more challenging. We start exactly where you are today, and build from there at a pace that feels safe and sustainable.

The first session is a consultation and gentle movement assessment — no intense exercise required. We’ll talk about your health history, any injuries or conditions, your goals, and what you enjoy (or don’t). Your trainer will observe how you move through some basic motions and use that to design a program built around you specifically.

Please bring any relevant medical notes or a list of medications if you have them. It helps us plan safely from day one.

I recommend getting clearance from your physician if you have any active medical conditions — such as heart disease, osteoporosis, recent surgery, or joint replacements. It’s a simple step that protects both of us. If you’re unsure, we can review your health history together and We will let you know whether we need a note from your doctor before we begin.

The Training Itself
Sessions are typically 45–60 minutes and always begin with a gentle warm-up to prepare your joints and muscles. From there we move into your main program — which may include strength exercises, balance training, mobility work, or a combination depending on your goals. We finish with a cool-down and a brief check-in about how you’re feeling. Every session is adapted in real time based on how your body responds that day.

Yes — this is a core part of what we do. Whether you’re managing arthritis, back pain, post-surgical recovery, or balance issues, We will program around your limitations and gradually work to improve the areas causing difficulty. We will never push you into movements that cause pain.

Pain is never a goal. If something hurts, we stop, adjust, and find another way.

Most clients find great results with two sessions per week, which gives enough frequency to build progress while allowing recovery time. One session per week is a fine starting point if you’re new or cautious, and I can also provide optional home exercises to complement in-person training without overloading you.

Sessions are in-person and one-on-one. The sessions are held in our main gym at The Fitness Edge. We do offer semi-private training in our studio. You can find our more information about Semi-Private Training here.

Pricing & Practical Details

Pricing depends on session frequency and the number of sessions purchased. The best way to get an accurate quote is to get in touch directly — we will be happy to talk through what works for your schedule and budget. We offer payment plans on many of our packages. Many clients find that committing to a small package upfront keeps them consistent and saves money over time.

Life happens — I understand that completely, especially if you’re managing your health day to day. We ask for 24 hours’ notice for cancellations when possible. Sessions cancelled with less notice may be charged, but we always try to be flexible and find a time that works if you need to reschedule.

Comfortable, non-restrictive clothing and flat, supportive footwear is ideal. Bring a water bottle and wear layers if you tend to feel cold at rest — we’ll warm up gradually. If you use a walking aid, brace, or any assistive device, bring that along too so I can incorporate it safely into your sessions.
