Pilates for Parkinson’s

The Benefits of Pilates for People with Parkinson’s

Living with Parkinson’s presents unique challenges—stiffness, balance issues, reduced mobility, and sometimes fatigue. But movement is one of the best tools for maintaining strength, independence, and confidence. That’s where Pilates comes in.

Pilates focuses on controlled movements, breath, and alignment, which makes it an excellent option for people with Parkinson’s. On the Reformer, exercises can be modified to meet each person’s ability level, offering both support and gentle resistance. Over time, participants often notice improvements in:

  • Balance & Coordination – Pilates challenges stability in a safe, guided way.
  • Core Strength – A stronger core helps with posture and daily movement.
  • Flexibility & Mobility – Stretching and controlled movements keep joints moving freely.
  • Mind-Body Connection – Pilates encourages focus, helping sharpen coordination and awareness.
